Happiness Creates Success.
It does not work the other way around: achieving success does not create lasting happiness.
By building a life of flourishing and greater well-being, you create the conditions for real, sustainable success.
I'm Vanessa. I guide midlife women through disruption by showing them this truth and helping them build a life that actually fits.
If you're in the Transition Fog, you know this feeling:
You're navigating a major life disruption (relationship rupture, empty nest, career crossroads, menopause, identity shift) and you desperately need to take control of your future.
But you're emotionally depleted, mentally foggy, and scared of making another decision you'll regret.
Because of this fog, you feel uncertain which direction to take, and don’t trust your capacity.
The old formula says: act now, heal later. Hustle and achieve now, feel whole later.
Your greatest fear, and what paralyzes you, is the thought that the only path to independence is the one you just escaped: a misaligned life of overwhelm, self-betrayal, and grinding for someone else's definition of success.
What if tending to yourself wasn't a detour from success, but the actual path?
Introducing the Flourishing Foundation
Think of yourself as a living thing that needs specific conditions to thrive. Like a plant, you need strong roots, healthy soil, clean water, a sturdy stem, and light to grow toward. When those elements are in place, growth and resilience follow naturally.
The Flourishing Foundation is a four-phase framework for rebuilding your life from the inside out:
Ground — Reconnect to your foundation. Find stability, safety, and presence in your body and your life when everything feels shaky.
Nourish — Tend your soil and water. Identify what sustains you and what depletes you, set boundaries, and create conditions where you can actually thrive.
Strengthen — Grow your stem and leaves. Rebuild self-trust, align with your real values, and learn to listen to your own knowing again.
Orient — Turn toward your sun. Choose your direction, define success on your own terms, and take your first grounded steps forward.

A reminder for the woman going through disruption, identity shift, and transition fog. This is a free letter and printable that meets you exactly where you are right now, and gives you permission to be there.
I’m building this life too.
I'm 48, rebuilding after my marriage ended. I have a Master of Arts in Urban & Environmental Policy & Planning from Tufts University, two decades of experience in nonprofits and small business operations, and years of practice in meditation and ecological gardening. (I'm also an extremely serious plant nerd, which is why everything I write eventually turns into a botanical metaphor.)
I created the Flourishing Foundation because I needed it myself. I am on a mission to prove that happiness can lead, rather than follow, success, and I share what I’m learning with other women who are ready to do the same.
The beauty of this lies not in quick fixes. I offer a process I'm implementing myself.
Join women reclaiming their ground.
“Just reading the guide brought calm and pleasure. I’m going to start day one tomorrow, but even today, I found myself acting on good impulses, though a few of the habits I’d like to shed crept in. The ideas are imaginative, the activities enticing, and it truly feels like you are there to encourage me.”
“I love the tree/plant metaphor—not only does this feel very authentic to you, but it’s an extremely apt way to describe each of these processes or concepts from what may be kind of abstract into something even those without green thumbs can understand.”
